The AdOps team initiated their journey to revitalize and optimize Ad Operations by emphasizing metric precision. They embarked on crafting accurate and useful benchmarks for CTR, VCR, and Viewability. This robust process involved data exploration and segmentation, providing a granular view of performance trends over time. Next, the team spearheaded a transformation of the existing billing and pacing processes and spreadsheets, introducing automation to these fundamental tools. This automation streamlined data handling, extraction, and utilization, simplifying the billing process and significantly enhancing workflow efficiency. In pursuit of accuracy and efficiency in revenue tracking, the team introduced an automated feature to the billing sheet. This feature projected and tracked delivered budgets, ensuring a more precise management process for quarterly delivery.
Addressing challenges arising from inconsistent campaign naming conventions, the AdOps team employed Google Apps Script to create an automated spreadsheet. This innovative solution provided a structured repository for campaign information, streamlining campaign management. The team proposed a highly efficient pacing document in Google Sheets to tackle the absence of a dynamic campaign optimization tool. This document harnessed the power of macros and advanced formulas, streamlining the data population process and ensuring precise, data-driven campaign management.

They recognized site monetization potential through strategic ad placements but lacked the necessary infrastructure. The client needed to enable an ad server for efficient ad delivery and create ad units seamlessly integrating with their website's content. This predicament stemmed from the need to strike a balance between user experience and revenue generation. The absence of a robust ad-serving system and well-designed ad units blocked effective web traffic monetization. Therefore, they were missing out on revenue streams and opportunities for growth in the highly competitive digital advertising landscape.
The client's objective was clear: to implement a comprehensive solution that would enable efficient site monetization through the strategic placement of ads, the implementation of a robust ad server, and the creation of ad units that seamlessly blended with their website's content, ensuring a superior user experience while maximizing revenue. The challenges included cumbersome ad unit management, the need for accurate user-origin-based house ad delivery, roadblock package limitations, mobile creative quality concerns, and the quest for precise creative previews and article targeting. The Solution

To address the Client's challenges, our Ad Tech team planned a comprehensive solution, streamlining ad technology for optimal performance.
The team improved the ad unit management by creating a limited number of primary ad units and implementing key-value targeting for precise section targeting. This reduced the time and effort required for ad unit tagging, resulting in faster website launches and increased revenue. The suggestions included a key-value targeting system that collected user-origin data to serve house ads based on user origin, enabling flexibility and precision. Addressing the issue of blurry mobile creatives, the team introduced a custom creative template that allowed for easy unit size adjustments with double dimensions, eliminating mobile blurriness and enhancing creative quality.
For precise creative previews, the team developed a key-value system. By adding "?testpage=(custom value)" to the active URL, this system generated test pages that facilitated accurate creative previews and approvals.
To meet the need for precise article targeting, the script that read post IDs and enabled accurate article targeting through GAM, aligning with standard campaign requirements, was implemented on the site.

The Result

The team streamlined the process, saving time on ad unit management. This meant faster website launches and a significant boost in revenue. Key-value targeting made it easy to serve house ads and target articles precisely. Updates fixed the blurriness issue on mobile with our custom creative template. It made the creatives look much better, improving the overall user experience.

Close collaboration with the design and engineering teams was vital. They successfully birthed a brand new marquee ad placement through practical testing and adjustments, demonstrating their commitment to providing effective solutions.
As they moved forward, the design team reached out with issues related to a new unit they were eager to showcase - technical hiccups disrupted the unit's functionality on the site. The Ad Tech team stepped in, testing various solutions to address the issues. They decided to focus on the creative template in the ad server, making critical adjustments with JavaScript.
With the creation of new ad units, the team faced the challenge of running similar units on all properties within the network. This required adjustments to the creative template. They expanded it to include additional properties, facilitating the seamless sale of rich media units across all websites within the network.
But the Ad Tech team's journey didn't stop there. By conducting Quality Assurance checks for active websites, they identified and documented issues such as CLS problems, ad overlaps, and slow page behavior.

The Result
